At Medipro Clinics we use the Lutronic Clarity II™ for laser hair removal — a dual-wavelength laser combining 755 nm Alexandrite and 1064 nm Nd:YAG, with large spot sizes of up to 25 mm and IntelliTrak™ technology to help keep coverage consistent. Having both wavelengths means we can tailor treatment to your skin type and hair.
The Science Behind Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal works by passing a light beam through the skin, which is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle. The laser energy heats the follicle, damaging it and inhibiting future hair growth. Over a course of treatments, the hair becomes finer, lighter, and eventually stops growing altogether.
Clarity II has two wavelengths. The 755 nm Alexandrite wavelength is highly absorbed by melanin, making it particularly useful for suitable lighter skin types with darker hair. The 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength penetrates more deeply and has lower melanin absorption, giving our practitioners an important option when treating darker skin types. Your suitability, wavelength and treatment settings are always decided after consultation and skin assessment.
Important Information
Laser hair removal is not effective on grey, white, blonde, or red hair as these hair colours contain insufficient melanin for the laser to target. During your free consultation, we will assess your suitability and discuss realistic expectations.
Patch test required: By UK law, a patch test must be carried out before your first treatment session. You will need to wait 24 to 48 hours after the patch test before your full treatment can begin.
Treatment Course
A typical course consists of 6 sessions, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. This spacing allows us to target hair at different stages of the growth cycle, as the laser is most effective during the active growth phase. Some areas may require additional sessions depending on hair density and hormonal factors.
