PDO THREADS
Threads are made of soluble PDO (polydioxanone), a material used in medicine for many years, mainly in surgery.
PDO relaxes muscles and tendons while stimulating the production of new collagen in the skin. PDO also stimulates the production of elastin and hyaluronic acid in the skin, vital for creating youthful looking skin. Effective in facial lifting and winkle removal through self-stimulation of cell. There is minimal interruption in daily life even right after the procedure and no side effects or worries about removal as it will be fully dissolved in the body after 3 to 6 months. This is biodegradable and biocompatible.
How do PDO Threads work?
The PDO thread is inserted into the skin through a very fine needle or cannula causing an artificial wound, inducing a healing effect improving the skin. Creating upper and lower contraction between skin and muscle, or skeletons, the thread causes a lifting effect. When located in solid tissue, near bones or ligament, the fixed tissue has a stronger adhesion effect to the skin.
Different lengths and thicknesses of thread are used for different areas of the face and body. Short strands of threads are often used to treat fine lines around the eyes, while thicker strands can be injected into the muscles of the forehead as an alternative to Botox. What are PDO threads made of?
Polydioxanone — a clinically proven material already used in surgical sutures. It’s the preferred choice of material for a thread face lift as it naturally and safely breaks down and dissolves in the body.
Who’s the best candidate for a thread lift?
Men and women in their 30s and beyond who have mild to moderate drooping, lines, and wrinkles in the forehead, face and/or neck. We can also perform the treatment as a non surgical eyelift or on other areas of the body, such as, upper arms, stomach, and thighs.
You must also be in overall good health and have realistic expectations of the treatment. Facelift threading is best suited for those who want to enhance their appearance without resorting to cosmetic surgery.
How does a non surgical facelift work?
The insertion of the PDO threads triggers the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin, which lasts for at least 2-3 years. The threads themselves dissolve over six months as new fibrous connective tissue grows around them.
Do the threads need to be removed at a later date?
No, the threads will gradually dissolve in the body over six months, which actually helps stimulate collagen production. The threads work to return some of the skin’s elasticity, resulting in a reduction in sagging, lines, and wrinkles.
Will I be able to see the threads?
They cannot be seen once they are inserted under the skin.
How do I prepare for my facelift without surgery?
Threading requires no prior preparation, other than your initial consultation.
What happens during the procedure?
Local anaesthetic will be applied to the treated area, so you will be comfortable throughout your face thread lift. We then use a cannula or a micro-needle to insert the PDO threads into the deeper layer of your skin. You will be able to return to your usual activities.
How long does treatment take?
Your non surgical face lift will take around 45-60 minutes depending on the number of areas being treated.
When will I see results?
You will notice an immediate improvement right after your threading face lift. Optimal results will begin show over 2-6 months as collagen production is stimulated. The threads will dissolve over six months, but the results will be maintained for much longer.
How long do results last?
This varies depending on the patient’s age at the time of treatment, the quality of the skin, the degree of sagging and the number of threads used. However, results tend to last 2-3 years on average.
How do I care for my face after treatment?
Most patients experience mild bruising and swelling that lasts for 24-48 hours after treatment. This can be alleviated by using a cold compress and keeping your head elevated. Recovery time usually takes about a week.
You should also be sure to:
Avoid heavy lifting
Sleep on your back
Avoid rubbing or stretching your face
Avoid strenuous exercise for 2-3 weeks
We will give you comprehensive advice on how to ensure a smooth, fast recovery.
When can I wear makeup again?
In most cases, patients are able to wear moisturiser, sunscreen, and makeup straight after treatment. If you experience mild bruising, a light concealer can be used to cover this up.
Can I drive home after my threading facelift?
As the treatment is performed under local anaesthetic, you will need someone there to drive you home afterwards.
When can I return to work?
You should be able to return to work right away. However, if your job requires strenuous activity then you must take at least 2-3 days off to facilitate healing. Your doctor will advise you on what’s best for your recovery.
When will my follow-up appointment be?
Your follow-up appointment will be scheduled for the first week after your treatment to assess the immediate results and your recovery.
What are the side-effects?
A thread facelift is a very safe treatment and complications are rare. There is a small risk of swelling, infection, bruising, numbness and slight asymmetry. If you experience any side-effects, they should pass within a few days.
